Course Logistics

The program consists of a classroom presentation followed by a written exam. You must score 75% on the exam to continue to the in-water training portion of the class.

The in-water portion of the class is conducted over 2 days.

The first day you will be presented with 10 mini scenarios. These include tired diver, a panicked diver at the surface, locate a missing diver, ascent with a non-responsive diver, among others. Some of these scenarios will be done multiple times to show you different possible reactions of divers in these situations.

The second day we do two large scenarios that tie all of the mini-scenarios together. Instead of handling one problem, you will conduct an entire rescue using all of the skills learned on the first day in the water.

If there is one class you should take as a diver, this is the class. Not only does it help you prepare for a worse case scenario, it also makes you think about minor issues. Knowing how to rescue a diver when they are in trouble is important. But I found the lessons on how to stop the trouble before it starts just as helpful. The last day was full of real, in water, diving simulations that really helped build confidence and solidify the knowledge that was gained in the class. This was a phenomenal course!
